1. Make Money Blogging
There are thousands of people who make a full-time living from blogging.
Blogging gives you many opportunities to make money:
- Sell Beats – Use your blog to promote new music projects to sell.
- Sell Products – You can sell both digital and physical products online.
- Offer Services – Turn your skills into services to offer to businesses.
- Affiliate Marketing – Earn a commission by promoting popular products.
- Ads – You can display ads from Google Adsense or other ad networks.
- Membership Website – Users pay a monthly fee to get access to content.
- Sponsored Posts – If you get a lot of traffic, some businesses may pay you to write about their products or services.
A blog gives you a place to create a variety of content to promote these different things.

2. Get Website Traffic
Traffic is essential for every successful business.
The more traffic you get, the more chances you have of increasing your sales and income.
No Traffic = No Sales!
Having a blog allows you to add content to help generate traffic.
If you have a static website, your content will become outdated.
There is no reason for visitors to return for the same information.
A blog allows you to add content fast, which trains your visitors to check back for fresh content.
Some blogs update daily, weekly, or every 2 weeks.
All the content on your blog can be shareable so people can share your content with others.
3. Own Your Online Brand
You want to have one central location for all your information.
You don't want to depend on social media websites alone, because social media websites will come and go.
You can spend years building a following on social media to later lose them, and have to start over.
But by having a blog, or website, you will build a following on social websites and lead them to your website.
With a blog, when you create content to be found in search engines, you are investing in your business for the long term.
A blog is something that you can use for many years to promote your music, projects, and activities.
I would argue creating content for your blog is more important than creating content for social media.
Yes, you can do both. I recommend creating content for your blog and post it on social media.
Hip Hop Makers has over 250 blog articles and received over 2,000,000 visitors in 2020 from search engines.
Social media is great and helpful
It is important to build a website you own, that is your central home online.
4. Build a Fan Base
Having a blog gives you a voice.
You can use a blog to share helpful and entertaining content to build a loyal fan base.
You gain loyal fans through repeated exposure, and a blog is a great place to do this.
Having a blog allows you to get fans because you can show your personality, expertise, and knowledge.
5. Content Marketing
Content marketing is when you create content that indirectly promotes your products.
Example: Find Your Greatness by Nike
This content can be a commercial, inspirational, informative, fun, or creative.
It's about creating content that your audience is interested in.
Example of the type of content you can write directed towards your targeted audience.
If you sell beats, your target audience may be music artists.
So you can create articles on:
- Songwriting Tips
- How to Put Music on Spotify
- How to Find Album Art
- How to Promote a New Single
- How to Promote a New Song
Businesses are spending more time and money on content marketing because it's more effective than paying for ads.
One way to get website traffic is paying for ads, but this can add up to a lot of money very fast.
Online ads charge per click of a banner ad, which can cost $0.40 to $10.00 per click and does not guarantee a sale.
But by writing good content specifically for your audience, you are:
- Building Trust
- Sharing Helpful Knowledge
- Building a Relationship with Customers
Example: Coca-Cola Content Marketing
Check out how Coca-Cola plans to double its business by using content marketing.
Focus on creating helpful content for your target audience to help promote your products and services.
6. Build Credibility
People spend money with people and brands they trust.
So you want to find ways to build trust and establish authority.
You can do this in a variety of ways:
- Creating helpful articles and videos.
- Production Credits – Show you have worked with some serious music artists.
- Post photos with popular music artists
- Social Proof – Get testimonials from satisfied customers.
Those are just a few examples.
But if you don't have some of those things you can focus on building trust by creating helpful content.
Create content that is helpful towards your target audience to make them trust you.
Be helpful to your audience, and in return, they will be helpful to you.
I know a lot of you may not want to do this and only focus on music.
But music producers like DJ Pain1, Curtiss King, and Busy Works Beats have all built huge followings on YouTube by sharing helpful content.
7. Get Search Engine Traffic
When someone searches for your name, you want to make sure you come up in search engines first.
Having content that appears in search engines will help you get more website traffic.
If your website only consists of 5 pages, you don't have much content to appear in search engines.
Your competition may have a blog with 75+ articles.
So they are more likely to show up in search engines and get more traffic.
Having good content will help your website to be seen in search engines.
Hip Hop Makers receives over 80,000 visitors per month which is through search engines.
That's because I have 200+ blog posts and I aim to write about content people are searching for.
8. Create Content for Social Media
Having a blog gives you and your visitors content to promote on social websites like Facebook and Twitter.
Social Media can help you network and spread the word about your products and services.
Plus you can embed feeds from your social profiles into your blog to have everything in one place.
9. Email Marketing
If you have a blog you can create content to share with your email list.

If you offer products and services, you don't want to only email your list trying to sell something.
This will make them not trust you, and cause them to unsubscribe to your email list.
Instead, create educational and entertaining content to get them to visit your website.
On your website, they will see banner ads on the sidebar promoting your products and services.
Having a blog gives you more opportunity to create a variety of content to promote to your email list.
10. Connect with Fans
Blogs allow you to get direct input from your fans and customers.
When you post new content, visitors can leave a comment and share their thoughts.
You can ask questions, run polls, and get feedback, which can help you connect with your audience more.
When someone leaves a comment, you can reply, and keep the conversation going.
This will allow you to connect and network with new people.
11. Compete with Competition
Selling beats and getting your music heard is a competitive business.
Having a blog gives you a central homepage to link visitors to so they can learn more about you and what you offer.
Your competitors have a blog or website already, and when you don't have one, they are out-doing you.
By creating good content you can build a fanbase and generate traffic to compete.
12. Track Your Career
Having a blog can give you an archive of your music career.
You can share what projects you are working on, who you are working with, and your interests.
Showcasing work can help to build trust and credibility.
It shows you have been dedicated to your craft for years.
It's also nice to be able to look back at all the work you did because we can forget what we have accomplished at times.
More Reasons to Blog:
- It can be fun.
- It can be used to network.
- You can help others by sharing knowledge.
- It's cheap and easy to do.
- Helps you stand out.
- It's accessible all over the world 24 hours a day.
So if you are not blogging, we suggest you start today. You should be looking into ways to promote yourself, your products, and your music

Here are 3 suggestions if you aren't good at writing, or don't write at all.
1. Create Videos
If you are better at speaking, try creating YouTube videos.
Create video content for your target audience. Behind the scenes, product reviews, and beat-making videos.
Once you create a video, add it to your website, and link to your website in the YouTube description.
2. Use Phone for Audio Dictation
A great tool to use to get your ideas out is to use your phone's audio dictation to write.
I will often go to the park, sit in my car, and use my iPhones audio dictation to write out a blog article.
I get more clarity on ideas away from home.
Once you get all your ideas out. Paste your text into Google Docs to edit the text, and use the Grammarly add-on to check grammar.
3. Hire a Writer
If you don't want to write at all, consider hiring some help.
You can pay someone on the website Fiverr to write a blog article for you.
If you do hire a writer, get specific on what you want.
If you are too vague, you can get some poorly written content and waste your money.
